[ cheers ] giants get ready for game two of the national championship league series after an exciting but tough series opener. "mornings on 2" starts now. well, welcome to mornings on 2. i'm dave clark. >> good morning, dave. >> thank you. >> i'm tori campbell. it's monday, october 15th. a man is dead and police are searching for the gunman of an overnight shooting in oakland. it happened on hilton street near 57th avenue. alex savidge is at the oak police station with more why they need your help to track the suspect down. >> reporter: good morning. detectives have their work cut

out for them. they don't have any solid witnesses. this shooting happened just before 1:00 on hilton street, the 50000 block. that's where we watched as they picked up shellcationings. i was told by an officer that the shooter fired at least -- shell casings. i was told by an officer that the shooter fired at least 12 wounds. they found a man on the ground and he was unresponsive. the man was transported to the hospital where he died just a half-hour later following the shooting. investigators have not identified the victim or released his name. they couldn't even tell me roughly how old this man was. at this point, oakland police don't have a whole lot to go on in terms of a description of the shooter or any possible getaway car. no arrests so far. homicide detectives still working on thiscation. live in working in oakland,

alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. oakland police are also investigating another shooting that sent two people in the hospital overnight. it happened around 12:30 on 7th and fillbert. police say the shooter kept firing shots at the victims, hitting cars and windows. the victims eventually ran into the lobby of an apartment building. about 60 shell casings were found at the scene. police say this shooting happened at the same apartment building where windows were shout out earlier this month. that shooting high pressured on october 1st at around the same time. four men got out of their car and opened fire. two people were rushed to. hospital with serious injuries. about 40 shell casings were found at the scene. police in san jose say a woman arrested on saturday night may be arrested to several arson fires. that woman was arrested after

she was seen starting a fire in a garbage can. it was in the same area where fires were reported in alleyways. investigators are checking for evidence that may connect her to other fires. the suspected cause of the chevron fire is being connected to an event in august. now, ka tropical depression is suspected. according to documents obtained by the -- corrosion is suspected. according to documents obtained by the "chronicle" the employees said this corrosion was taking a toll on their equipment. president obama and mitt romney face off in their second debate tomorrow night. i'm gonna show you a picture of the debate stage at hoff ster university in new york. coming up at 7:15, the fine line anlive lift -- anlife

site to work on the $1.2 billion stadium. this state of the art facility could be the site of the super bowl. sometime today, the nfl is expected to announce which cities are in the running to host a super bowl in 2016 or 2017. leaders from san francisco down to santa clara have been working to the 49ers to put in a bid to host the game. if hosted, san francisco would be reportedly the official host city and would have an event leading up to the game. some fans in the south bay who live there have mixed feelings. >> that would an little weird but i can see why because there's a lot more things to do in san francisco rather than santa clara. it -- it will be a little weird. >> reporter: the santa clara mayor told us that he believes his city will economically benefit as well. the stadium here in santa clara is scheduled to open for the 2014 season. but according to league rules it can't host until 2016.

the only previous super bowl in the bay area was at stanford stadium in 1985. now we put in a call to the 49ers spokesperson and are hoping to hear back from him but we haven't just yet. reporting live from santa clara, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, janine. 7:06. it's a little foggy out there. >> yeah. >> we'll have more on the weather there. let's check in with sal first. is it still slow on the bay bridge? >> it is. this one is not as bad as the ones last week. we have a bigger backup. this is a look at the east shore freeway. whenever something happens on the bridge, this is one of the freeways that really takes a hit. 80 westbound coming out from the berkeley area all the way through to the bay bridge toll plaza is slow. and the reason is that they -- when they have a crash on the bay bridge they slow the lights down. they have sped them back again. we're hoping that this is not gonna be what it was like last

week where we had the commutes that lased well into the 9:00 and 10:00 hours on the bay bridge. we're hoping it gets a little better than that today. moving along to walnut creek, pleasant hill. 680 at treat boulevard. there was a crash in the lanes. they moved it over to the shoulder. watch for slow traffic as you drive toward alamo. let's go to steve. well, a lot of fog out there. mark says clear in pleasant hill. there is a lot of areas that are clear. some areas are reporting fog. some of it is up. others say it's down below, misty. on the coast, el granada. some areas will burn off fast. something -- something has to give. that will be the temperatures. for the game, mostly clear, i think 62. we're going for a high of 7 -- for a high of 70. a very foggy morning. hazy skies, mostly sunny and a little warmer. a few high clouds.

the key, though, is the fog, some of it has been right down on the deck. it doesn't matter if it's coast, bay, inland. some of the visibility is awful -- awful. san jose, the fog is right there. the higher clouds stay to the north. a few of them drift across us. but overall, the jet stream goes to the north. the rain goes to the north. we could sure use widespread rain. there's nothing like that showing up at all. warmer weather showing up. it will start a little bit today but much more so on wednesday. low 50s for some. i think fairfield is the only clear location. they have a puff of a breeze. most locations don't. 60s, 70s and 80s. temperatures after a mostly foggy morning. we'll see 80s inland. they've been held in check. but they are starting to work their way back. but they will continue to do so. wednesday and thursday looks nice on the coast. it doesn't last too long. the weekend looks pretty good.

but the temperatures will start to come down a little bit. the controversy surrounding cell phone smuggling at california prisons has taken a new twist. according to a new report, 20 california prison employees accused of smuggling cell phones to inmates have either resigned or were fired. the report claims most of those employees were accused of smuggling the phones in exchange for cash. one inmate was caught with a phone that had a nude photo allegedly sent by a female guard. 62-year-old jose molana died thursday after becoming trapped inside an industrial oven. we have no details on how he became trapped in there. 7:10. a high-ranking port of oakland official is facing inappropriate charges. the inappropriate way he

to tougher sanctions against iran's nuclear program. there is hope the new action will put presh officer on iran to -- pressure on iran to pursue negotiations. iran insays their -- insists their nuclear program is for peaceful purposes. the race for the white house is tightening. alison burns is live in our washington, d.c. newsroom to tell us how mitt romney a campaign is still gaining steam. >> reporter: dave, president obama's lead is shrinking. polls show president obama is up by 1 point and that's well within the margin of error. and mitt romney is up 2 in a poll of battleground states. president obama visited virginia yesterday. he's hunkered down at a -- at a resort in williamsburg preparing for the debate. mitt romney who campaigned over

>> reporter: alison burns, ktvu channel 2 news. 7:15. governor jerry brown says he's going to launch a full-on campaign for his ballot initiative to raise taxes starting tomorrow. brown's proposition 30 would increase california's sales tax rate by .25 for the next four years. it would also raise income tax for those earning more than $250,000 a year. the money raised would be used to prevent further cuts in education. new information this hour surrounding reports that a top port of oakland official is the focus of a strip club spending scandal. reports say james quan is under investigation for allegedly spending more than $4500 in public money at a houston strip club. officials say it happened back in 2008 during a conference where he was hosting a dozen shipping industry executives. it's the same strip club that was part of a prostitution

scandal and drug-dealing investigation. the port commission announced they are taking actions to strengthen the port's reinforcement policy to prevent improper spending of port funds. transit officials admit they didn't have the right permits to work on a rail line that will connect sonoma and marin counties. the journal reports that a permit for soil testing was issued but not one for construction. the work is being done along galinas creek in san rafael near the habitate of endangered wildlife. they admitted the error and say stricter rules are in place. tomorrow, the 9th circuit court of appeals will hear arguments to a legal challenge to california regulations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. last year, a federal judge in fresno ruled that this was unconstitutional and found it's

violating the federal commerce clause because they reach across borders hans discriminate against out-of- state businesses. the goal is to reach them to 1990 levels by the year 2020. electric cars pollute the environment before they even hit the road, it's reported. researchers in norway says the way these cars are made make them twice as harmful to the environment. still, they say electric cars can make sense if the power used to run them comes from low carbon sources. attorneys for local activists will argue tomorrow in federal court for looser marijuana regulations. americans for safe access is challenging the schedule 1 classification for marijuana. schedule 1 is the federal government's classification for collision it says has a high potential for abuse and no accepted medical use. the u.s. court of appeals for

heights. a woman in golden, colorado told police a man in a blue car tried to kidnap her son over the weekend. police now say the man was just trying to use the boy to get the attention of his ex- girlfriend. the incident upset many people because it happened near where 10-year-old jessica ridgeway was kidnapped and killed last week. your mother and i are gonna be taken. >> "taken 2" is on top at the weekend box office for the second week from a row. the liam neeson film is in the film. 7:20. homeowners many of them african- americans filed a class action lawsuit in new york against 12 of the world's largest banks.

the accident happened in the kennedy grove in el sobrante yesterday and two victims were so badly injured, they had to be airlifted to john muir hospital in wall night creek. all three were riding an offroad vehicle that rolled over on a steep trail -- steep trail. there's no word what caused the crash and the victims are not identified. later this week, a vote on what to do with the radar tower in the santa cruz mountains. the mid-peninsula open space district will look at taking it down, destroy everything but the first floor walls or seal the building up. now, advocates are hoping that third option will win out and that the radar tower can be

the coverage right here at 4:30 foowing the news at 4:00. details are sketchy but someone was shot around 11:00 last night during a reception held at freedom hall. no details on the condition of the shooting victim or a possible suspect. police in san leandro searching for the person they say stabbed a woman trying to break up a fight. police say the victim is expected to be okay. now police are searching for the 19 too 20-year-old man -- 19 to 20-year-old man involved in the argument who they say was by hind all of the violence. he was reportedly seen wearing a dark jacket, jeans and a baseball cap. if you have any information, call israel -- call the police, san leandro police. the contra costa county

injury and is said to be stable. in a few hours, testimony will resume in the trial of giselle esteban, the union city woman accused of killing michelle le. last week jurors heard a tape of police interviewing her shortly after le disappeared. she's accused of killing her former friend last may. le's body was found four months later. esteban says she believes that le was involved with her ex- boyfriend. a judge has ruled there is sufficient evidence against anthony wayne smith. he's accused of kidnapping and killing two brothers in los angeles in 1999. two years later, prosecutors say smitt kidnapped and -- smith kidnapped and killed another man in los angeles. he's already been tried for beating a man along a desert highway. the jury deadlocked in that

concerns were brought about. it is 7:38. b.a.r.t. is back to normal this morning but it was shut down last night for an hour and a half because a man walked into the transbay tube. b.a.r.t. officials say their security cameras in the station caught the man walking into the underwater tube around 6:45 last night. service between san francisco and the east bay was immediately stopped. officers walked through the tube, found the man and arrested him. full service was restored about 8:15 last night. >> all right, tori. 7:39. hey, sal, have you fixed everything on the east shore? >> not yet. >> not yet. >> it's been a slow one. the bay bridge has been slow again because of a crash. i want to show you the east shore freeway. for the most part, the slow traffic extends into richmond. we had an earlier crash on the bay bridge. it didn't stay long that time. but it really has messed up

traffic. if you are loosing -- using the carpool lanes, you'll be in better shape than using the regular lanes. it's about a 45-minute tee lay at the end of the line. we have a lot going on. all kinds of indicators, all kinds of fender-benders, too many for me to mention. 280 is slow. 17 is slow. northbound 17 right where it turns into 880. northbound at 88 a. northbound 280, there is a crash. not only is it foggy, but there are a lot of fender-benders out there. >> it's ridiculously foggy out there. visibility is terrible for some. other areas of clear skies and low clouds. visibility looks to be about zero. some dense coastal fog. very warm air but even some misty drizzly conditions by the coast.

teams. witness says the man injured was wearing a dallas cowboy shirt. he was stabbed at candlestick park while walking to the game with some friends. it happened on harney way. witness says he was going to the game with several fans who were 9er fans. some witnesses say two men started to seize the -- tease the man about his dallas jersey. >> actually, his girlfriend ran in the way. and they stabbed him in the stomach. yeah. just arguing about sports teams. >> reporter: the stab wound is described as minor. the victim is commented to survive. the police have arrested two men involved in the incident. time now, 7:47. later on today, the warriors will submit the first drawings of their proposed san francisco arena.

well, a man is dead. oakland police busy searching for the gunman in an overnight shooting. it happened on hilton street near 57th avenue. alex savidge is there. you are outside the oakland police station. the police want our help to catch the suspect. what's going on? >> reporter: well, dave, detectives have very little to go on in this investigation because no solid witnesses, really, have come forward after this deadly shooting. it happened early this morning just before 1:00 in the morning. we watched as crime scene investigators collected shellcationings from the -- shell casings on the sidewalk. the shooter fired at least ten pounds. they got 911 calls about the gunfire and when officers showed up, they found a man on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds unresponsive. >> he died about a half-hour later at the hospital. so far, investigators have not been able to side the victim of this shooting where they've not

parnassas avenue. it's shut down to traffic. you ke -- you can see the university police car is out here. cars are being directed not to go past this intersection. its closed -- it looks like this officer is gonna try to get angry -- is gonna get angry at this truck that tried to get through. this is all because of a suspicious package spotted at around -- at around 7:46 this morning. on top of the hill, there are a number of san francisco police officers, some fire trucks, checking out the package, making sure it's not hazardous or dangerous. we should mention that this is right next to ucsf medical center. according to the officers here, the medical center has not been evacuated. there is a child care center right across the street at 3rd street. that child care center has been evacuate. ed. we don't know -- the -- evacuated. the officer didn't know where

news. an update on a situation near ucsf in san francisco. a suspicious package has been found in the 600 block of parnassas. it was discovered over an hour ago, as 7:45 this morning. we had a -- at 7:45 this morning. we had a live picture. this is a picture where you can see police blocking off the street there, just at 4th avenue as they try to get closer to this package and determine what it is and whether it's a hazard or not. they are being extremely cautious. this is causing problems near the ucsf medical center. >> that's a very busy area. anyone who has go -- who has to go to ucsf, there's a flow of traffic constant all day, parking and everything. this is a major disrun huntion. we haven't -- disruption -- disruption. we haven't heard of any injuries. >> and this has been going on

for over an hour. we have a reporter and camera person on the scene. let's check in with sal again. >> parnassas in front of ucsf, it's a trolley line that runs right through here. what muni has gone, they've brought in motor coaches to take people off the trolley line there. and they are putting them on these other buses. that's actually a ucsf bus we're looking at here. nearby on irving street just down the hill, the n-judah is still running. that's not affected. it's running from it irving inbound. but parnassaa -- parnassas is what you need to look out for. this is the bay bridge. that's backed up for about a 5- minute delay. san francisco 101 traffic, traffic is moderately heavy.
